Ilocos Photo Diary I: Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte

To start off this blog, I'm going to bring back this trips that we had from way back when I was still in university. Me and my peers had incredible trips that are worth immortalizing. That means this would be primarily a photodump of some sorts, a travel diary. So as to the purpose of this post, it took to birds with one stone: to keep memories worth reliving and to have a hand in promoting the wonderful place the Philippines has to offer. I hope you this post can be of help even for just a crumb of information / inspiration.

Architecture is part of man's history that's why as architecture students, we were entitled to a tour where in we can appreciate our field and even more so, our country's history. It was our 2nd year struggling, moping and growing eyebags when our fairy god mothers and fathers slash professors decide to give us a treat: a tour. And every kid at heart was delighted even though it was kind of a "non-university" liable thing. Hey, can you really blame us? We got to travel with our parent's money, have a three-day vacation without the said sponsor of the money and a life full of money's worth experience. See, life is full of redundancy. Money.

So we got two buses full of screaming and hyper teenagers and very lenient professors with us. And because I am posting this four years later, I won't go into specifics anymore and let's just rely on this beautiful captured memories and scenery.

Shout out to J8 Travels and Tours in which did a really great job in accommodating us. Check J8 Travel and Tour's website guys and learn about their travel promos and discounts. Click here.

First stop is PAGUDPOD. ILOCOS NORTE.

Facing the West Philippine Sea, Pagudpud’s beaches are nothing short of amazing: Stretches of white sand lined with coconut trees and crystal-blue water. Located at the northernmost tip of the Luzon island, Pagudpud is a sleepy coastal town. But the locals are definitely generous with their smiles. It’s not overrun by tourists yet, but it’s getting there. So head on out — now.

Visit Philippines' Tourism website. Click here.

Saud Beach is where the action is as many of the newer and more posh accommodations are here. If you want a more secluded beach, try Blue Lagoon in Barangay Balaoi. Here you’ll see fishermen hauling in their catch. Feel free to check out their catch and bargain for that huge lapu-lapu (grouper) or lobster. You can then have them cooked at one of the nearby restaurant shacks. Intrepid travelers will also be delighted to know that there are a handful of homestay accommodations here. But if you want the best, go to Kapuluan Vista Resort, a stylish surf resort.

The Patapat Viaduct is a viaduct at the municipality of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, a coastal resort town on the northernmost tip of Luzon Island in the Philippines. The bridge is elevated 31 meters over sea level. It is a concrete coastal bridge 1.3 km long and connects the Maharlika Highway from Ilocos Region to Cagayan Valley. It is the 4th longest bridge in the Philippines.

And as I've said in the topmost part of this blogpost, this is a throwback photo diary. Meaning, for the life of me I couldn't remember our itinerary. Probably because I was too into the group tour that I didn't care to take notice of things and travel etceteras.

So in place of a travel guide I have included here The Must Section. Basically, these are the places, the things and the foods that I wish we had the pleasure of experiencing. The very downside of being in a group tour is that you do not have the liberty to choose places you want to visit or the luxury of time to experience the food and the activities.

Listed in this sections are the things I want to see/experience when I get the chance to revisit Pagudpod someday.

With our group tour, we had the chance to visit Saud Beach and the Patapat Viaduct. We also visited Bangui Wind Turbines however I could not find any photos in my drive.

In addition to these 2 must-visit places these places listed below. (I have included links of blogs that may help you in your future trip. Click the links below.)

Foods that are must try in Pagudpod are of the same of Laoag or Ilocos. Most notable of them are the Bagnet Ilocos, Longanisang Ilocano and the famous Empanada. Click here to know more about must-try foods. Also visit Trip Advisor's Top 5 most famous restaurants in Pagudpod.

I think it's best to stick to natural attractions in Pagudpod. The area is full of wonderful gifts from mother nature. But if you are into extreme adventures you might want to try Hannah's Zipline. I haven't tried this one and just know it from research. If you did try it, feel free to comment your experience. Share it so next time I'll know it it's worth the try.

So here you have it. Overall, Pagudpod is a nice place to visit however, in just a day or as a side trip. There are lots of places around Pagudpod that would conveniently make up the whole itinerary. That way, you can cover more of Ilocos' precious gems.
